Plenty of class IV rapids and play wrapped up in the Upper Mishawaka section. Most of the rapids are read and run class III/IV in character. First section of play is at Three Way at mile marker 106.4. The first rapid of note is Tunnel Rapid, pushy waves and hydraulics forcing you into a large undercut wall river left. Next comes Baldwin Rapid mile marker 107.2. At mile marker 107.6 offers more play at the Ultimate Squirt Spot. The most consequential rapid Mishawaka Falls comes next, consider scouting river right. Mostly read and run class IV for the remainder of the run.

| | Put-In Take Highway 14 to the Steven's Gulch put-in, just downstream from the narrows on the north side of the road at mile marker 104.7.
| | | 3 rock Class IV- Difficulty of this rapid varies depending on the water level. The usual line (for kayakers) is to go far left into a small eddy, hang out there and catch your breath then ferry river right above the rocks below you. At higher water levels (3 feet or more) you can run river right and boof a tight slot between 2 rocks. | | | Tunnel Class IV- This is the rapid immediately upstream of the tunnel you drove thru on your way to the putin. No particular line just watch for the undercut rock wall at the bottom of the rapid. Difficulty varies with the water level. | | | Mishawaka Falls Class III+ It's nothing spectacular, but provides a great place to teach beginners how to swim in a powerful rapid. The river bends left and ultimantly ends up pinched between two house-sized boulders. There's a nice pool (which is kinda out of character for the Poudre) and a takeout right below the rapid that make the run more forgiving than one would think it. Some people might call it a Class IV at the right flows, but after taking a canoe through Hells Canyon in Idaho, it feels like a III+ at most. | | | Take-Out The take-out is at the The Mishawaka Inn just downstream from Mishawaka Falls and is at mile marker 108.2. |
