The Glenwood Springs Whitewater Park is one river-wide feature across the Colorado River. It will have a wide range of different type features due to large range of flows, and three sections designed for different levels. The lowest the Colorado gets at Glenwood is about 1400cfs, and in a large snow year could peak at 20,000 or more cfs.
The park consists of the main feature, on river left, the ultra high water feature in the middle, and the boat passage wave on river right.
The main feature at 1600cfs and below is a flat, ledge type hole created by three main concrete blocks. Although somewhat intimidating, the hole will give up most hole tricks for the experienced boater ready for a possible beat-down afterwards. For these tricks to go best, plug at the center concrete block. The beat-downs tend to be pretty mellow usually consisting of a couple window shades to a flush. The main feature although no one really knows yet, should wave out at around 3,000cfs.
The center, high-water feature at low water creates a good place to get out of your boat and take pictures, or stretch your legs, however at peak runoff should create a large wave in the middle of the river.
The river right channel was originally designed as a boat passage around the main feature. At lower water (around 1600cfs) this passage creates a sweet little surf wave that is great for left spins, and right roundhouses. It has a nice little pile so usually spins and roundhouses will stick easily.

| | Put-In On I-70 take Exit 114 into west Glenwood. If going west, go around the round about, under the interstate, around the next round about, and over the bridge on Midland Avenue. Take your first left after the bridge, check out the feature, drive back across the bridge to park in the lot on river right(I don’t think you can reach the lot without going over the bridge twice), gear up and throw down.
If going east on I-70, take exit 114, go around the round about, and over the bridge on Midland Avenue. Take your first left, there is the park. Drive back across the bridge to park on river right. Gear up, Throw Down. Coming down the Roaring Fork Valley? Take 82 towards glenwood, take a left at 27th street, drive across the bridge over the roaring fork, look left for a small hole we like to call Goliath. Take a right on Midland Avenue, drive past Target, under the railroad, over the bridge, and park right next to the feature. Huck Your Meat. | | Wave at 9500 Class I The Boat Chute - River right is eddy access and great. Initiating move can be difficult because the wave is flat with a long pile.
The main wave River center to river left you have to hike for though a couple of times people surfed from river right. Bouncy fun. Huge potential. |
