Lower NSV is broken up into two sections. The upper section is considered "Shelly's Cottages" which starts after the Middle North Saint Vrain and is considered class III whitewater with one notable drop with a lateral wave. The lower section is referred to as "Apple Valley," and is mostly class II white water and is approximately three miles long and starts at the wooden arched Apple Valley bridge (3 miles away from Lyons). The run ends at the Lyons Whitewater Park, plenty of play, bring your play boat. The run can be extended to the Black Bear Hole 1 mile further down the river.
