South Mineral Creek is Class V steep creeking through a tight, low volume gorge. Located just above Mineral Creek Campground, just north of Silverton. Very short run, locals typically run laps on this run.
Definitely scout the 1/2 mile gorge. The runnable section of South Mineral Creek is preceded by class VI sections and runs into class VI sections so scout carefully. Keep your eyes open for a 20 footer visible from a large clearing as you drive up the road. This drop is approximately 1/3 of the way into the run. Then comes Shish-Ka-Bob, a large slide with a hidden log on river left and a big pool on river right. Next comes Prime Time gorge which is usually free of wood, scout regardless. A few hundred yards downstream the class VI begins.
