The Lower Elk stretch of the Elk River is considerably more mellow than the class V section above. This roadside class III run offers plenty of access points and easy scouting. No major drops to be concerned with on this section, consider bringing the playboat.

	Put-In To get to the put-in head north out of Steamboat Springs on Highway 40 turn right onto 129 Road towards the airport. In 17 miles turn onto 64 Road. Eight miles up after crosing the river is Box Canyon Campgrond. Put-in from the lower end of this campground.
	Take-Out The final take-out for the Lower Elk is were you crossed the river.
