Located in beautiful Wesser, North Carolina, the Nantahala is a cold, fast moving, roadside, class II-III river walled in a deep beautiful gorge.
Patton’s Run is the first major rapid and it’s located just downstream of the put in. Best run on the right, it can also be scouted on the left bank. Most kayakers stay to the inside of the bend.
Next is Delabar's Rock. Just below where the river crosses under US 19.
The largest rapid on the run, Nantahala Falls, is located just above the takeout. This rapid has many eddies, waves, and holes, therefore, there are many lines to chose from. Scouting alongside the many spectators is easily done on the right via a concrete pathway maintained by Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC).
The Nanty is a dam controlled river that releases from March to November.
A popular rafting run and a great place for beginning kayakers to cut their teeth.
