From Kremmling take Highway 9 approximately 2.5 miles south to Trough Road (1 RD). Go right on this road for 10.6 miles till you hit the Pumphouse Campground turnoff. |
| | First Drop Class III
A simple wave train down through an easy corner. It's not even worthy of a scout. Stay center and you'll be fine. |
| | Eye of the Needle ~2.5 mi Class III
This a fairly straightforward rapid with a simple move: don't hit the rock. There's a big rock in river center and two chutes on either side that go, but you really want to go right. After that it's a simple wave train for a short distance. |
| | End of First Gorge Class II+
A long "rapid" that is just a bunch of small wave trains and laterals in a short box. This is just above the hot springs. |
| | Red Gore/Yarmony Class III
A good sized three part drop through a really short gorge. There is a class II+ corner that leads into a calm pool above a class III drop. This first drop has a big rock on river right that at higher waters turns pourover status. Go left of this in the current. The next big drop has two boulders on river right, a right hand turn, and then a move through a hole at the bottom. It requires a little manuvering in the middle to keep yourself off the wall, but it's easy. After this there is another pool, and then an easy II+ rapid down into the flatwater. |
| | 1st Willow Rapid Class II+
This is an interesting section of the river that flows through some willow lined channels. Theres several clear channels, but if you float through the right combination of them, it forms a long rapid. FUN. |
| | 2nd Willow Rapid Class II+
This is the same story as the first, just at a lower spot on the river. |
| | Lower Rapid 1 Class II+
The first rapid in the Rancho to State Bridge run. A short wave train with a corner below it. Easy. |
| | Lower Rapid 2 Class II+
Another willow drop like the ones above Rancho. |
| | Lower Rapid 3 Class II+
A shallow but somewhat steeper wave train with a corner at the bottom. |
| | Flat Water Class I
The Pumphouse section is class 5 - so boring you might die. It is a beautiful stretch of river and canyon, but 10.5 out of 11 miles are flat water, and there may be a headwind. |
