The Pumphouse section of the Colorado River is a very popular stretch of class II - III whitewater. The run begins with a section of flat water leading you to a railroad tunnel which signifies the beginning of the Upper Gorge. The Gorge will begin to narrow and steepen as it heads towards one of the crux rapids called Eye of the Needle rapid. Be prepared to make your move left or right of the large rock in center of the river. After this section the river begins to mellow. Keep your eyes peeled for the hotrpings river left. More flat water till you hit the second gorge, called Red Gorge. Rapid difficulty increases in the gorge, stay heads up, Yarmony Rapid is approaching and is marked by a warning sign. One last stretch of boulder gardens and your home free.
