My brother Josh Anderson introduced me to Pine Creek Falls in the mid 1990's. He had run it and told me about it, but I was reluctant and skeptical. I knew of the falls from hunting in the area, but never thought of boating it. Eventually he took me there, and I was a believer.
Pine Creek begins about 1 mile above the falls, and is basically a series of springs gushing from the hillside. The water is turquoise, and is always cold. The riverbed has some travertine ledges with watercress along the sides. The hills of the Tunp Range rise up from the canyon hundreds of feet. Elk, deer, grouse and moose abound.
The falls is a 10 foot park and huck that runs year round, though it may ice up in the winter. It can be penciled in small boats, boofed, and 180'd. The falls is a great 1st waterfall for the new huckster.
Check the depth of pool before hucking, as it sometimes fills in with gravel or sediment after high water event. Also, downstream beaver dams periodically wash out lowering the level of the pool below the falls. Be conscious of the vegetation around the falls, and please don't kill the tree at the lip...or else the falls will erode to jank.
The tree in question is a shrub on river left, at the lip of the falls, that loves to snag paddle from the unwary. Tie back or trim the branches...but don't kill the tree.

Put-In
Drive about 1 hour north of Evanston on Highway 89 to Cokeville, Wyoming (right on the way to the Snake, Greys, etc.). Take County Road 232 east from Cokeville, WY, just south of the Flying J Truck Stop. Look for the brown "Ski Area" sign on HWY 89. Drive 3 miles and take a right on County Road 204 towards the mountains and Pine Creek Ski Area (Pine Creek Road). After 3 miles, the pavement ends. Stop at the pull out on the right side of the road after cresting a small incline about 2-300 feet after the road turns to dirt. Walk 25 foot to the falls.
